The annual school rankings for the 2022-2023 school year in the Greater Houston area were recently released by the research and advocacy nonprofit Children at Risk. Among the top-ranking schools was Carnegie Vanguard High School, part of the Houston ISD, which secured the prestigious position of being the number one public high school in the region.
Principal Ramon Moss, who has dedicated 20 years to Carnegie, expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing the success to the collaborative efforts of the parent community, an outstanding PTO, exceptional administration, dedicated faculty, and motivated students.
Children at Risk evaluates and ranks Texas public schools annually, focusing on student achievement, campus performance, and student growth. High schools are further assessed on college readiness, gauging graduation rates and participation in college-preparatory activities.
The organization aims to foster transparency and accountability in the education system, sparking dialogues on enhancing educational opportunities for all students, especially those from low-income and diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Bob Sanborn, the President and CEO of Children at Risk, emphasized the significance of addressing the needs of students from low-income families and diverse linguistic backgrounds in Houston’s educational landscape.
In addition to recognizing top-performing schools, Children at Risk identifies high-achieving, high-poverty schools through its Gold Ribbon Schools program. Pleasantville Elementary, an HISD institution, clinched the top spot as the number one Gold Ribbon School in the Greater Houston area for the 2022-2023 academic year.
HISD high schools dominated the top rankings, with schools like Young Women’s College Prep Academy, Eastwood Academy, and Challenge Early College High School securing notable positions. Similarly, HISD middle schools such as T.H. Rogers School, Mandarin Immersion Magnet, and Briarmeadow Charter showcased strong performance in the rankings.
T.H. Rogers School also stood out as one of the top elementary schools in the region. For a comprehensive list of the rankings, visit the Children at Risk website.
