### Polk State Students Can Once Again Explore Study Abroad Opportunities

Posted by Michael Ferguson on Wednesday, January 10, 2024

Polk State College students will now have the chance to participate in a study abroad program for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Historically, students from Polk State have engaged in study abroad experiences in various cities like London, Paris, Dublin, Athens, and Madrid, among others. These international programs play a vital role in fostering essential life skills, enhancing cultural sensitivity, and cultivating a global perspective that encourages critical thinking.

The upcoming study abroad venture is scheduled from May 15 to 20, featuring a Bahamas cruise tailored for Hospitality Management students. Participants can enroll in either Introduction to Hospitality (HFT1000) or Selected Topics in Business (GEB2930) courses during the travel period. The total cost amounts to \(950, covering taxes, fees, gratuities, transportation, guided tours, and meals. To secure a spot, interested students must submit their applications along with a \)200 deposit by Friday, Jan. 12.

Throughout the immersive four-night cruise, students will gain insights into the inner workings of various cruise ship departments. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to explore a resort in the Bahamas. Each evening will feature a group dinner focusing on business etiquette, offering students valuable lessons in dining protocols. The trip will be led by Professors Paul Howe, Maria Lehoczky, and Ashley Godfrey.

In addition to the Bahamas excursion, Polk State students can look forward to other study abroad destinations in 2024, including Japan, France, and Costa Rica. The application deadline for the Costa Rica trip is Monday, Jan. 15, while the deadlines for the Japan and France programs fall on Feb. 1.
