According to ABC 6 News, Iowa Republicans are revising their proposal to reform Area Education Agencies (AEA) and enhance special education services for students in Iowa. Governor Kim Reynolds highlighted the significant performance gap of students with disabilities compared to the national average, despite Iowa’s higher expenditure in this area.
In her address, Reynolds criticized the sole focus of the state’s nine AEA’s on students with disabilities. However, in response to public backlash, Iowa Republicans have pledged to seek a solution that balances cost savings for the state with improved outcomes for disabled students in Iowa.
