### Enhancing Educators: Aga Khan Schools Advocate for Teacher Training Workshops

The Aga Khan School intends to propose the establishment of a regular workshop for professional development for teachers to the Ministry of Education and Sports. Mr Mahmoud Seyani, the CEO of Aga Khan Schools, highlighted that these networking workshops are designed to enhance teaching skills and educational outcomes within the country. Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day educators’ networking conference in Kampala on March 23, Mr Seyani emphasized the significance of these workshops in advancing the field of education in Uganda.

The conference, jointly organized by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and Kognity, a Swedish publishing company, aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among educators. Mr Seyani underscored the partnership between IBO and Kognity, emphasizing the provision of e-learning resources and electronic textbooks by Kognity. He noted that the IB programme, renowned for its active and concept-based learning approach, is offering free professional development workshops for teachers in Uganda for the first time, marking a significant opportunity for educators in the region.

Dr Benson Kairu, the IB Development and Recognition Manager for Africa, highlighted the importance of incorporating global best practices in IB teaching and learning. He emphasized the alignment of IB pedagogies with modern educational trends, focusing on inquiry-based and conceptual learning methods to create conducive learning environments for students.

Mr Marcus Tirkel, the account manager at Kognity, stressed the inclusivity of their curriculum, catering not only to international schools but also to a broader spectrum of educational institutions. He emphasized the value of knowledge exchange among teachers from diverse backgrounds, citing the benefits of sharing experiences and best practices. Mr Tirkel expressed Kognity’s commitment to hosting more events in Africa to facilitate collaboration and foster a community of educators dedicated to enhancing teaching methodologies.

In conclusion, the emphasis on continuous professional development through workshops and knowledge sharing initiatives underscores a commitment to improving teaching standards and educational outcomes both locally and internationally.
