### Top 3 Destinations I’m Eager to Return to Post Studying Overseas

This article is authored by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Embarking on a journey to Europe proved to be an unparalleled experience, leaving an indelible mark on my memory. The allure of the cuisine, the warmth of the locals, the awe-inspiring architecture, the enriching museum visits, and the serene beaches collectively painted a picture of pure magic. Having expanded my horizons and added a few more stamps to my passport, the yearning to revisit these enchanting lands has intensified.

Given the current constraints that prevent me from venturing abroad again in the near future, I have channeled my fervor into curating a list of travel recommendations for you instead. Whether you are mapping out your post-graduation escapade, planning a spring or summer retreat, or simply nurturing a deep-seated wanderlust akin to mine, the following European destinations are a definite must-visit. I, without hesitation, would leap at the chance to revisit these locales in a heartbeat.

All the destinations I have handpicked are nestled in the vicinity of Mediterranean Europe, offering a perfect setting for your own “Eat, Pray, Love” moment. In addition to detailing the destinations themselves, I have included a plethora of recommendations encompassing eateries, activities, transportation options, accommodations, and hidden gems—all of which I can vouch for based on my personal encounters.

Valencia, Spain

Valencia stands out as the city where I savored the most delightful moments during my time abroad, never once feeling weary of its charm. For those unfamiliar with the Spanish language, fret not! The denizens of Valencia exhibited remarkable patience and a significant number of them conversed fluently in English during my stay. This coastal gem boasts a highly walkable layout, with its historic district, shopping precinct, and coastline nestled within close proximity, facilitating seamless exploration within a day or two.

Immerse yourself in a day of exploration at captivating sites such as the Serranos Towers, the Central Market, the National Ceramic Museum, Plaza de la Reina, and an array of other enchanting locales. These attractions are bound to captivate your senses for an extended duration. Additionally, a mere 20-minute tram ride or a leisurely 45-minute bike excursion from the city will lead you to the picturesque coastline. While Platja de Cabanyal stands as the nearest beach to the city, all the beaches in Valencia promise an equally enchanting experience.

As dusk descends, replenish your energy reserves after a day filled with adventure at some of my preferred dining spots, offering a diverse menu ranging from delectable paellas to sumptuous burgers. Among these, La Papardella, La Riuá, Hundred Burgers, and La Terrazza left a lasting impression on me.

Valencia boasts a plethora of Airbnb accommodations and hostels situated conveniently within the city, ensuring a hassle-free search for a secure haven to rest your head.

To be honest, I struggle to find any fault with this place, and my longing to return grows with each passing day.

Rome, Italy

Rome, a name that resonates with familiarity for most, undoubtedly deserves its place on this list. I will refrain from delving into iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum or the Trevi Fountain (although a visit to both is highly recommended) and instead shed light on lesser-known facets of this historic city.

Rome remains the sole destination where I casually strolled down the streets only to chance upon renowned landmarks! Of particular significance, I dedicated a substantial portion of my time to two pursuits: delving into history and savoring culinary delights.

Indulge your palate in Rome’s gastronomic offerings, ranging from mouthwatering pizzas and pastas to delectable pastries and invigorating coffee—each bite is a culinary delight worth savoring. After all, when in the birthplace of cacio e pepe, indulgence seems only fitting. While I found it challenging to encounter subpar food, the pinnacle of my culinary journey was the pasta and desserts in the Trastevere area, especially the gelato, which surpassed all expectations. A standout spot for this frozen delight was the Old Bridge Gelateria near Vatican City.

Venturing beyond the culinary realm, ensure you do not overlook the Villa Borghese Gardens, the Piazza Navona, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Pantheon, among other historical treasures that Rome generously offers. The city exudes a rich tapestry of history, urging visitors not to overlook the hidden gems that lie in wait.

Rome lends itself well to exploration on foot, while destinations farther afield are easily accessible by bus. For accommodations, I wholeheartedly recommend the Beehive Hostel. Boasting a welcoming staff, a plethora of curated tours and activities to acquaint you with the city, and cozy yet affordable lodgings, my stay at this hostel was nothing short of delightful.

Having spent five days in the city, I still harbor a sense of unfulfilled exploration, a testament to the timeless allure of Rome.

Paris, France

Without a hint of irony, Paris secures its spot on my list of recommendations. The city’s acclaim is well-founded, owing to its myriad attractions spanning museums, gastronomic delights, and iconic landmarks.

Paris lays claim to the most efficient public transportation system in my experience, with the metro serving as a reliable companion for navigating the city’s expanse. Furthermore, owing to its status as a premier travel destination, Paris offers a plethora of accommodation options. During my stay, I opted for an Airbnb hosted by a local resident in the heart of the city—a decision that not only provided a comfortable abode but also furnished me with invaluable recommendations that enriched my sojourn.

Delving into the culinary landscape, I discovered exceptional dining establishments scattered throughout Paris. A vibrant ambiance coupled with a lively atmosphere often serves as a prelude to a gastronomic extravaganza, with each restaurant boasting a menu that is nothing short of exceptional. From escargot (a delicacy worth sampling) to French onion soup, mulled wine, and an array of breads, desserts, and pastries, Paris offers a culinary journey like no other.

In addition to the well-trodden paths that draw throngs of visitors, Paris harbors a wealth of beauty waiting to be discovered. Unmissable attractions include the iconic Eiffel Tower, the majestic Arc de Triomphe, the renowned Louvre Museum, the tranquil Tuileries Garden, and a host of other captivating sites.

The descriptions provided herein merely scratch the surface of these enchanting destinations. The true essence of a place can only be gleaned through firsthand experience, and I wholeheartedly encourage each reader to embark on their own voyage of discovery. While these recommendations aim to offer a semblance of guidance on where to look and what to do, I understand the challenges that come with planning a trip. Armed with a clearer vision of the possibilities that await, I wish you the journey of a lifetime whenever that may be, allowing you to embrace your very own “bon voyage era!”
