### Scholarship Awards by Will County Irish Society for Study Abroad Program

The Irish American Society of County Will has granted scholarships to three summer exchange student scholars.

Three students, namely Kate Leeders, a junior at [ppp1], Nolan Hall, a senior at Lincoln-Way West High School in [ppp2], and Lauren Potts, a senior at [ppp3], have each been awarded a $4,000 scholarship for the Irish Life Experience, as stated in a press release from the Irish American Society of County Will.

According to the release, the program for 2024 is priced at $5,650.

During the 2024 IASCW Scholarship Banquet on April 7, these three students will deliver an audio/visual presentation to the attendees.

Since 1983, IASCW has presented scholarships to 56 students, including those in 2024.

The Irish Life Experience is a study abroad initiative in Ireland, catering to high school students, as per the Irish Life Experience website.

Reflecting on her experience in 2017, Hannah Borgra, who participated in the Irish Life Experience during her time at West, described it as “the most amazing experience of my life.”

“It taught me how to value life lessons,” Borgra shared. “and how to meet new friends. I didn’t know a single person when I left on the trip and know I have 12 new lifelong friends.”

To qualify, students must reside in and/or attend a high school in Will County, according to the release.

Applicants underwent a selection process that considered their academic achievements, extracurricular involvements, and an essay detailing their motivations for studying in Ireland.

The 2023 IASCW scholars who partook in the program include Cassidy Gray (Joliet Catholic Academy), Edward Keegan (Joliet Catholic Academy), and Paul Coffey (Joliet West High School).
