SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury High School was ranked as one of the top high schools in Massachusetts on the U.S. News & World Report 2024 list of the best high schools released Tuesday.
Shrewsbury ranked No. 49 overall in Massachusetts, and No. 1,247 in the U.S. (that’s out of 25,000 nationwide). Shrewsbury’s state ranking puts it in the top 12 percent of all high schools in the state.
U.S. News picks the top high schools based on students who score high on math, reading and science assessments, as well as strong performance among under-served students. The magazine also counts graduation rates and college readiness as part of the assessment. Shrewsbury ranked best (No. 36 statewide) for the share of students who took and passed AP and International Baccalaureate classes, known as the college curriculum breadth index.
U.S. News ranked 405 high schools across Massachusetts. Westborough fell in between Groton-Dunstable High School and Old Rochester High School in Mattapoisett. The top 10 high schools in Massachusetts were:

- Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School, Marlborough, 253rd nationally
- Belmont High School, Belmont, 290th nationally
- Acton-Boxboro Regional School, Acton, 338th nationally
- Weston High School, Weston, 355th nationally
