University of Maryland School of Nursing Rankings in 2024
The University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) has once again demonstrated its excellence by securing a position in the top 10 among public nursing schools. In the latest 2024 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” UMSON has shown significant progress across all six categories where it is evaluated, out of a total of 651 accredited nursing schools surveyed.
Both the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs at UMSON have shown remarkable improvement in their rankings compared to the previous year. The DNP program has surged to No. 8, a considerable leap from its previous position at No. 15, while the MSN program now stands at No. 20, up from No. 25. Specifically among public nursing schools, the DNP program shares the No. 4 spot, with the MSN program following closely at No. 9.
UMSON boasts two specialties that have attained top positions nationwide among public nursing schools. The DNP Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) specialty and the MSN Health Services Leadership and Management specialty are both tied at No. 1. Additionally, the DNP Family Nurse Practitioner specialty holds a strong position at No. 3, and the DNP Nurse Anesthesia specialty is ranked at No. 7.
The rankings by U.S. News & World Report take into account various factors such as student selectivity, faculty resources, research activity, and survey data from deans of accredited nursing schools. The survey, conducted in fall 2023 and early 2024, included 651 nursing schools offering master’s or doctoral programs, with 292 institutions responding. Out of these, 216 provided sufficient data for the nursing master’s program rankings, while 188 were eligible for the DNP program rankings. Many schools were evaluated in both categories using overlapping data.
