– International Subject Rankings Showcase U of A’s Strength

The University of Alberta has maintained its strong international rankings, as revealed today.

In the latest rankings, five subjects offered at the U of A secured positions in the top 50 globally, with an additional 12 subjects in the top 100. This encompasses a total of 15 individual subjects and two broad subject areas. The evaluation encompasses 55 disciplines and assesses 1,559 universities based on various metrics like academic reputation, citations per paper, and employer reputation.

According to Bill Flanagan, the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Alberta, “These rankings consistently demonstrate the University of Alberta’s standing as one of the premier universities in Canada and worldwide.”

The Faculty of Engineering at the U of A continues to excel globally, ranking sixth in Petroleum Engineering and 12th in Mineral & Mining Engineering worldwide, and first and fourth in Canada respectively. This achievement follows Petroleum Engineering’s four consecutive years as the top-ranked program in Canada.

The Nursing program at the university also maintains its international ranking excellence, securing the seventh position this year. It has consecutively ranked first in Canada for the past two years and second in the country this year.

Furthermore, the university has seen progress in Sports Related Subjects, climbing four spots globally to secure the 15th position worldwide this year. In the field of Pharmacy & Pharmacology, the faculty has advanced to 48th place internationally this year, up from 49th, and holds the fourth position in Canada.

The University of Alberta has also been recognized in the Top 100 for broad subject areas like Life Sciences & Medicine (73rd) and Engineering & Technology (100th). Other notable subjects include Agriculture & Forestry (79th), Chemical Engineering (88th), Education (80th), Medicine (86th), and Environmental Sciences (96th). Additionally, several subjects such as Anatomy & Physiology, Dentistry, Geology, Geophysics, and Earth & Marine Sciences have secured positions between 51-100 globally in the 2024 QS rankings, marking the highest number of individually ranked subjects for the University of Alberta.
