### Allegations of a ‘Toxic’ Environment Rock Leading Law School

Something noteworthy is occurring at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. There is growing concern regarding the tenure of Dean Hari Osofsky, who assumed the position at the law school in August 2021. Reports indicate that the institution has been facing challenges such as mismanagement, a toxic work environment, and a lack of transparency since Osofsky took the helm, prompting many long-serving employees to depart.

One major point of contention revolves around Dean Osofsky’s restructuring of the Human Resources department. This overhaul resulted in the departure of three longstanding employees, with one source lamenting the demoralizing impact of this decision. Another former staff member highlighted a shift in the school’s atmosphere towards one where job security became a concern, emphasizing the importance of connections and compliance.

In response to criticisms, the dean attributed the organizational changes to the natural evolution under new leadership. Osofsky expressed pride in the collaborative efforts with the law school community to drive progress in various areas such as employment, admissions, diversity, fundraising, and operations.

However, grievances extended beyond the HR department, with allegations of micromanagement, gaslighting, and incompetence surfacing. Employees described the environment as nightmarish, leading to frequent emotional distress. Particularly, the marketing department faced challenges under the dean’s leadership, with reports of disrespect and adverse effects on mental health among team members.

Moreover, there were concerns raised about the high turnover of executive assistants during Osofsky’s brief tenure, indicating dissatisfaction with her leadership style. Despite a drafted statement expressing no confidence in Dean Osofsky and signed by around 70 students, it was not officially submitted to the university or the provost.

As the situation unfolds at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, the future actions to unify the Pritzker community remain uncertain.
