### Top 10 U.S. Private High Schools Include Three from Massachusetts

Three of the top 10 best private high schools in the country are situated in Massachusetts, as indicated by a recent ranking released this month.

A prominent company that assesses and ranks schools across all levels, from elementary to college, disclosed that Massachusetts is home to the fourth, eighth, and tenth best private schools in the United States.

The notable institutions in question are Philips Academy in Andover, the Commonwealth School in Boston, and the Groton School in Groton.

Niche, the organization responsible for the rankings, considered various factors such as feedback from students and parents, demographic information from the U.S. Census, and the geographical location of the schools in determining their positions.

According to Niche, Phillips Academy in Andover secured the fourth spot on the list, trailing behind Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn., Princeton International School of Math and Science in Princeton, N.J., and Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H.

Niche bestowed an A-plus rating upon Phillips Academy for its exceptional faculty, academic offerings, extracurricular programs, and college preparatory courses.

Furthermore, the institution earned an A grade for its inclusive environment and athletic initiatives. Niche’s data reveals that Phillips Academy accommodates 1,187 students with an equal distribution of 50% male and 50% female students. The average annual tuition fee for students attending Phillips Academy is reported to be $53,950 as of 2024.

Moreover, Niche identified Phillips Academy as the premier private high school in Massachusetts out of a pool of 114 competing schools.

The second Massachusetts-based school featured in Niche’s top 10 rankings is the Commonwealth School, securing the eighth position.

Situated in Boston’s Back Bay area, Commonwealth School is a co-educational institution with an enrollment of 154 students as of 2024 and an annual tuition fee of $55,400, according to Niche.

The school offers students the opportunity to engage in college-level elective courses such as computer programming languages and neuroscience studies.

Commonwealth School received an outstanding A-plus rating across various categories including faculty quality, academic excellence, diversity, extracurricular offerings, and college preparatory programs.

However, the school received a B grade in the sports program category, positioning it as the second-best private high school in Massachusetts, trailing behind Phillips Academy.

Groton School, located in Groton, clinched the tenth spot on Niche’s list of the top private high schools in America. Established as a Christian high school in 1884, Groton School currently enrolls 378 students as of 2024, with an annual tuition cost of $46,720, as reported by Niche.

The school’s curriculum encompasses a wide array of subjects ranging from Latin and calculus to extracurricular activities like string quartets, dance, and lacrosse.

Niche awarded Groton School an A-plus grade for its exceptional faculty, academic offerings, extracurricular programs, and college preparatory courses. The institution also received high marks for diversity, earning an A grade, and a commendable A-minus grade for its sports program.
