Purdue University’s Online Engineering Master’s Degrees Achieve Top Ranking

In the latest rankings by U.S. News & World Report, Purdue University’s College of Engineering online master’s degrees have once again secured top positions, solidifying their status among the best programs in the nation.

The online master’s degrees in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, and engineering management at Purdue have all attained the prestigious No. 1 ranking for 2024. This marks the fifth consecutive year that industrial and mechanical engineering programs have claimed the top spot, with engineering management achieving this recognition for the third year in a row.

Moreover, the College of Education’s online master’s programs have made significant strides in the rankings, climbing eight places to reach No. 15 nationally, up from No. 23 previously. Of particular note is the online master’s in curriculum and instruction, which now holds the impressive position of No. 6, a significant leap from No. 19 in 2023.

The rankings, unveiled on February 7th, position Purdue’s engineering master’s degrees in a tie for third place nationally, alongside Penn State. Additionally, Purdue’s online civil engineering master’s program has secured the No. 2 rank, while the online electrical engineering master’s program follows closely at No. 3.

Furthermore, Purdue has been recognized as the fifth-best institution for online engineering master’s programs catering to veterans. These rankings encompass evaluations of programs offered by 109 colleges and universities across the United States.

Purdue’s online engineering master’s programs are surpassed only by the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Illinois, outranking prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, and the University of Southern California, as well as leading Big Ten schools like the University of Nebraska, the University of Maryland, and the University of Michigan.

Arvind Raman, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering at Purdue, expressed pride in the continued recognition of their online engineering programs, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to expanding student opportunities and meeting the evolving needs of the engineering workforce effectively.

Within the College of Education, specific programs have also excelled in the rankings, with learning design and technology securing the 10th spot, educational administration at No. 11, and special education ranking 13th nationally. These achievements reinforce Purdue’s position as a leader in online education, with the college maintaining its status as the top-ranked institution in Indiana and within the top 5% of online master’s in education programs nationwide.
