### Jan. 22 High School Boys Basketball Top 10 Rankings by Press-Telegram

The rankings of the top high school boys basketball teams in the Long Beach area as per the Press-Telegram. The regular season has two weeks left before the CIF-Southern Section playoffs kick off.

BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 10

(Statistics accurate as of Sunday, Jan. 21)

1. St. John Bosco (20-4): Brandon McCoy Jr., a sophomore guard, leads the team with an average of 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. Elzie Harrington, the junior guard and reigning Trinity League MVP, averages 13.7 points and 5.8 assists per game. St. John Bosco secured wins against Orange Lutheran and JSerra last week, maintaining their top spot. They are likely to compete in the CIF Southern Section Open Division playoffs. The upcoming matches include a game at Servite on Wednesday and hosting Santa Margarita on Friday.

2. St. Pius X-St. Matthias (18-5): Tyrone Riley, the senior guard, surpassed 2,000 career points while guiding the Warriors to a 61-46 victory against the 5th ranked St. Anthony. Undefeated in the Del Rey League after transitioning from the Camino Real League this season, St. Pius X boasts an 8-2 record in 2024, with losses to Sierra Canyon and Roosevelt, both prominent teams in the CIF-SS Open Division watch list.

3. La Mirada (18-7): La Mirada, undefeated in the Gateway League, is riding a seven-game winning streak. In a hard-fought game against Lynwood, both junior guard Julien Gomez and freshman guard Gene Roebuck contributed significantly with 22 points each, resulting in an 85-77 victory.
