NEW HOPE, PA — The New Hope-Solebury School District has been recognized as a Great Pennsylvania School by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, making it one of the pioneering schools in the state to receive this distinction.
The Great Pennsylvania Schools (GPS) title is awarded to Pennsylvania public schools that offer students access to challenging educational programs, prioritize community engagement, exhibit financial stability, and demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges.
Dr. Charles Lentz, the Superintendent of New Hope-Solebury, expressed his enthusiasm about the designation, emphasizing the district’s unwavering dedication to excellence and creativity. He credited the exceptional educators, committed staff, and forward-thinking Board of School Directors for their role in ensuring a top-tier education for the students of New Hope-Solebury.
To qualify for the GPS recognition, school districts must fulfill specific criteria in four key areas. Firstly, districts must show that all their teachers are certified, and students have opportunities for career and technical education, gifted education, and advanced placement courses to meet the rigorous academic standards.
Community centrality is another crucial aspect, requiring districts to showcase innovative school programs, regularly acknowledge student and staff achievements, and offer a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities for student development.
Resilience and financial health are also essential criteria. Districts must demonstrate effective planning for academic success through measures such as emergency preparedness plans and mental health support for students. Financially, districts must undergo annual financial audits, present the district budget for public review before adoption, and adhere to School Code regulations for procurement processes.
Apart from celebrating the GPS designation and success stories from schools statewide, the campaign website provides valuable information on the roles and duties of school boards, guidance on running for a local school board position, and a shared vision for the future of public education in Pennsylvania.
Judeth Finn, the President of the New Hope-Solebury School Board, expressed pride in the district’s recognition as a Great Pennsylvania School. She highlighted the achievement as a testament to the collaborative efforts of the school board, parents, teachers, staff, administration, and the community in advancing the success of the students.
