The academic journal of the UConn Neag School of Education has been successfully published, thanks to the diligent efforts and commitment of a team of graduate students.

“We are thrilled to announce the release of the second edition of the Neag School of Education Journal,” states the Spring 2024 issue. “Aligned with our mission, our journal serves as a unique platform for graduate and early career scholars to create and share a wide range of academic work, encompassing research articles, essays, literature reviews, and reflective pieces. … The articles featured this year exemplify the journal’s commitment to promoting equity, methodological rigor, and innovative research.”

The Neag School of Education Journal, an editor-reviewed, open-access publication, is an annual endeavor led by graduate students under the umbrella of the Neag School. Its primary objective is to provide a forum for graduate students to disseminate their research and insights within academic circles. Moreover, it aims to enrich the discourse on education through the perspectives and experiences of graduate students and early-career scholars. The journal’s editorial board comprises eleven graduate students from the Neag School.

Emphasizing a dedication to enhancing education and social systems for the advancement of effective, equitable, and socially just practices, the journal values contributions that address these critical issues across various fields, perspectives, and theoretical frameworks.

The Spring 2024 issue features four accepted articles:

Additionally, besides offering a platform for graduate students and early-career scholars to showcase their work, the journal promotes collaboration among students and peers. It plays a role in demystifying the publication process and provides support to editors as they progress towards publishing their own research. The decision to make the journal open access was deliberate, ensuring that its content remains readily accessible to current and future practitioners. Notably, authors retain the copyright to their work, allowing them to further develop their pieces post-publication for potential submission elsewhere—a practice that aligns with the journal’s objective of nurturing authors’ skills and opportunities.

The journal will welcome submissions for its third edition later this year. Further information will be shared on the , where a submission form will be made available when the submission period reopens. Manuscripts must fall into one of four categories: research articles, essays, literature reviews, or personal reflections, all related to the field of education.

The board members express their gratitude to several individuals for their contributions to the successful realization of the second issue. They extend thanks to Dr. Jennie Weiner, the journal’s advisor, for her unwavering commitment and guidance, setting a compassionate and human-centered review standard for students. Dr. Jason Irizarry, the dean, receives appreciation for his enthusiastic support of the journal since its inception, emphasizing the significance of students’ work and voices. The board acknowledges the efforts and enthusiasm of all members involved in making this issue possible, expressing eagerness to continue advancing the journal’s mission with their support. Lastly, heartfelt thanks are extended to the authors whose work is featured in this edition, as well as all contributors, without whom this achievement would not have been possible. The board takes immense pride in showcasing their work in this issue.
