### Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board’s International Baccalaureate Program

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program, a Grade ¹¹⁄₁₂ university preparatory initiative, is acknowledged in more than 140 nations, including universities in Ontario and Canada.

In this program, students engage in the study of up to six challenging subjects simultaneously, fostering a global outlook with an emphasis on cross-cultural comprehension. Through an inquiry-based approach, IB students develop essential skills such as social responsibility, independence, and critical thinking, which are fundamental for their university education.

Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to seek university credit based on their performance in IB examinations. Graduates of the IB program receive both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and an IB Diploma.

The IB program is offered at Ancaster High School and Westdale Secondary School.

IB Information Night

2024-25 IB Application Process

The International Baccalaureate program welcomes all incoming Grade 11 students within the HWDSB jurisdiction. Students are required to submit applications to their designated IB school based on the catchment boundaries.

Important Dates:

January 12, 2024: Deadline for IB Applications at either Ancaster or Westdale, depending on IB Boundaries. Applications should be completed with the guidance counselor’s assistance to ensure all prerequisites are fulfilled before September 2024.
By February 2, 2024: Successful candidates (who are not current students at Westdale or Ancaster) will receive acceptance letters, registration packages, and IB Option sheets.
February 10, 2024: Families must notify Westdale or Ancaster of their acceptance via email. The IB school will liaise with the home/elementary school for further communication.
