What sparked your interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in Forestry?

My passion for forests, spending time amidst trees, exploring the woods, reading, and immersing myself in forest knowledge inspired me. Michigan State University’s forestry department stands out for its expertise in sustainable mass timber construction and manufacturing. This not only reduces the construction sector’s carbon footprint but also promotes forest health management and rural economic growth.

What motivated your decision to study at MSU?

MSU has always been my top choice for higher education due to its strong research culture, which aligns with my doctoral aspirations. Moreover, the inclusive and secure environment that MSU offers is particularly crucial for international students like me.

Share one of the highlights of your graduate school journey.

The opportunity to learn from a diverse group of researchers and scholars, access networking platforms, secure fellowships, receive support, and utilize the extensive academic resources at the MSU library have been standout experiences during my time in graduate school.

What message would you like to convey about this program?

The graduate program at MSU stands out for its diverse and inclusive academic community, boasting over 900 graduate student organizations dedicated to supporting students throughout their academic endeavors. The program also offers avenues for professional growth through research, teaching, extension activities, and collaborations across various sectors, fostering a culture of learning and cooperation.

The sense of belonging, the array of academic and professional growth opportunities, and the impactful research conducted at MSU are some of the most rewarding aspects of being an MSU student.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I aim to pursue a career in academia as a researcher, focusing on developing holistic forest sector modeling strategies that balance economic, environmental, and carbon sequestration aspects to ensure sustainable forests and a thriving economy.
