Schools-focused Track Announcement

We are thrilled to declare the upcoming 12th cycle of the TWU MS program in Speech-Language Pathology, specifically tailored for schools-focused cohort through a distance venue. This specialized program targets students dedicated to pursuing careers in Texas schools post-graduation. Commencing in May 2023, this 27-month program will accept applications from August 15 to January 7, 2023. Prospective applicants are required to attend one of the program information sessions before applying, distinct from the general program open houses. Only candidates participating in these meetings will be considered for the Cycle 12 schools-focused track.

Healthcare-focused Track Update

The following healthcare-focused track is scheduled to commence in summer 2024, with applications open from August 15, 2023. Prospective applicants are strongly advised to attend one of the SLP program sessions due to the unique program nature.

Program Details

The program encompasses the completion of 61 semester credit hours spread across seven semesters, including:

  • 41 credit hours of mandatory coursework
    • Synchronous online courses conducted 2-3 evenings weekly each semester
    • Schools-focused track requires attendance at regional education service centers for one synchronous class weekly
  • Two credit hours of elective courses
  • 18 credit hours of clinic (practicum) distributed over six of the seven total semesters

Additional Requirements:

  • Out-of-field students may need to undertake an extra clinic semester

  • Maintenance of sponsorship throughout the program is mandatory (an approved Texas education entity for schools-focused track and an approved healthcare entity for healthcare-focused track)

  • Each distance track entails a residency mandate on the Denton campus

    • Schools-focused track: six days at the program’s initiation
    • Healthcare-focused track: three days per each of the three summer semesters
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive exam before degree conferral and graduation

Upon graduation, you will qualify for licensure and certification to practice in any setting. Nevertheless, schools-focused distance learners must commit to serving as an SLP in schools for a specified duration post-graduation.
