Daily Breeze high school baseball Top 10 rankings, April 22

This is the final week of the regular season for CIF-Southern Section teams, and the Pioneer and Bay leagues have a lot left to determine.

The L.A. City Section has two weeks remaining in its regular season, and this week’s Carson-Banning series could decide the Marine League title.

This week’s Daily Breeze Top 10

1. WEST TORRANCE 17-7

The Warriors bounced back from a 4-0 loss to El Segundo with a 10-5 win over the Eagles last week. In nonleague games last week, West defeated California 6-0 and La Mirada 4-3. West enters the final week in a first-place tie with Torrance. West visits North Tuesday and hosts Thursday.

2. TORRANCE 17-7-1

Torrance swept a pair of Pioneer League games against Wiseburn Da Vinci last week to move into a first-place tie with West. Torrance scored 30 runs in the series against Wiseburn. Torrance lost to University 7-6 Saturday. This week, Torrance hosts South (Tuesday, 6 p.m.) and visits South (Thursday).

3. EL SEGUNDO 17-8

The Eagles have split their last three Pioneer League series, recently with West and South, to move into third place. The Eagles are one game behind West and Torrance and face Lawndale Tuesday and Thursday. They have a good chance to finish 9-3 in league, which could earn them a share of the league title.

4. PALOS VERDES 15-11

Three of the Mustangs’ last four games have gone to extra innings.

6. SOUTH TORRANCE 15-10

Last week South defeated Loyola in nine innings and split its two-game Pioneer League series with El Segundo. The Spartans are in fourth place, two games behind Torrance and West and one behind El Segundo. South plays two games against Torrance this week — Tuesday (on the road) and Thursday (home).

7. REDONDO 12-13

8. CARSON 16-7

The Colts extended their winning streak to eight games Saturday with a 5-0 win over Kennedy. Adrian Vera allowed two hits and no runs in 6 1/3 innings. Carson enters this week in first place in the Marine League and has an important series with Banning. Their second game is Thursday.
