### Awarding $3 Million in Matching Grants, CIEE Empowers Change in Study Abroad

NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION SUPPORTS INNOVATIVE MODELS TO PROMOTE STUDY ABROAD BENEFITS

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine, Feb. 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ – The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) has committed to granting $3,000,000 over a span of four years to assist colleges that are dedicated to enhancing their institutional objectives through substantial investments in international programs.

CIEE has allocated $3 million to aid colleges that are prepared to spearhead transformations in the realm of study abroad.

In its quest for three collaborative partners, CIEE is seeking institutions that are willing to drive change in study abroad by showcasing:

  • The essential correlation between global initiatives, institutional aspirations, and student accomplishments
  • The significance of higher education through the integration of international programs

This commitment was partly influenced by the discussions held in Paris last November. During the conference, key figures from various U.S. colleges and universities deliberated on how a holistic approach to promoting, integrating, and expanding international programs not only furthered their institution’s fundamental mission but also bolstered enrollment rates, student retention, and overall student achievements. Furthermore, experts in international education emphasized the importance of granting broader “Radical Access” to transformative international programs as a means to revolutionize study abroad initiatives.

With these pivotal themes in consideration, CIEE aims to support three colleges that are poised to establish themselves as exemplary models of success in driving change within the study abroad sphere.

“Leading change entails adopting a global program strategy that propels an institution towards its mission while enhancing student triumph,” remarked James P. Pellow, Ed.D., President and CEO of CIEE. “We are committed to endorsing endeavors that can serve as a benchmark in the educational sector, inspiring emulation from other colleges and universities.”

CIEE has released a Call for Proposals inviting innovative ventures that harness global programs to achieve one or more of the following objectives:

  • Positioning international education as a cornerstone in enrollment strategies, student retention, and student accomplishments
  • Broadening access to traditionally underrepresented students in study abroad programs
  • Providing global learning opportunities in critical academic disciplines (e.g., climate studies, language acquisition)
  • Supporting inventive forms of experiential learning (e.g., global internships, service learning)

Each successful institution will receive a matching grant of \(1 million over four years (with annual funding of \)250,000 contributed by both the institution and CIEE, totaling $500,000/year).

Proposals must be submitted by March 15, 2024.
