### BCEF Sponsors Study Abroad Program for 11 BHS Students

The Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Language (IUHPFL) has received a $3,000 donation from the Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) to support 11 Batesville High School (BHS) students studying abroad this summer. This contribution, made from the Andy Koors Legacy Fund, aims to facilitate the students’ immersion in a foreign culture to enhance their language studies.

Executive director Anne Wilson announced that the students, including Lucy Abplanalp, Lucas Alonso, Sarah Bedel, Abigail Hartz, Lydia Haskamp, Kailey Schaeffer, Matthew Skinner, Ava South, Isaac Trossman, Georgia Voegele, and Jenna Zimmerman, were selected for the IUHPFL program. The initiative, lasting between four to five weeks, mandates that participants communicate solely in the host country’s language throughout their stay.

Established in memory of Andy Koors, a beloved former BHS German teacher, the Andy Koors Legacy Fund embodies Koors’ passion for foreign language education. The BCEF board of directors has allocated over $25,000 in study abroad scholarships for BHS students, underscoring its commitment to fostering cultural exchange opportunities.

Wilson expressed the foundation’s ongoing commitment to honoring Koors’ legacy by exploring additional initiatives that positively impact students at BHS. The 2024 IUHPFL cohort from BHS will equally benefit from the BCEF donation, which will be allocated towards their program fees.

As the students embark on this transformative experience, BCEF welcomes contributions to the Andy Koors Legacy Fund to continue supporting educational endeavors that align with Koors’ values. Further details about the fund and donation procedures can be accessed on the BCEF website.
