New Delhi: The Educational Testing Service (ETS) has announced that universities in the US can now verify TOEFL test scores through their Indian study-abroad partners. This collaboration between ETS, based in Princeton and responsible for exams like TOEFL and GRE, and Career Mosaic, a prominent student recruiter for US universities in South Asia, aims to streamline the score verification process.

Beginning this week, US universities will be granted access to validated scores, which will not only enhance the credibility of student profiles submitted to them but also streamline the administrative procedures, thereby facilitating a more efficient student enrollment process. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test designed to assess the English language proficiency of non-native speakers seeking admission to English-speaking universities. Recognized by over 12,000 institutions across 160 countries, TOEFL is widely accepted in popular study destinations such as the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and by more than 98 percent of UK universities.

In response to feedback, ETS implemented several changes to the 60-year-old test last year to improve the test-taking experience. These changes included reducing the test duration to under two hours (as opposed to the previous three hours) and enabling candidates to view their official score release date upon test completion. Recent statistics from ETS indicate a 59 percent increase in TOEFL test-takers in India since the resumption of international travel following the COVID-19 pandemic. Indians now represent over 12 percent of the total global TOEFL test-takers.
