400+ NJ High Schools Make U.S. News 2024 ‘Best’ Ranking

NEW JERSEY — Several public high schools in New Jersey are among the best in the country, according to a new ranking Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report.

Among the 406 ranked New Jersey schools, two were in the U.S. Top 50 (Union County Magnet High School, No. 26; Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies, No. 39) and five were in the U.S. Top 100 (High Technology High School, No. 64; Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health, No. 65; Dr. Ronald E McNair High School, No. 83; Bergen County Academies, No. 84; Bergen County Technical High School Teterboro, No. 88).

The top 25 public high schools in New Jersey are:

  1. Union County Magnet High School, Scotch Plains
  2. Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies, Edison
  3. High Technology High School, Lincroft
  4. Middlesex County Academy for Allied Health, Woodbridge
  5. Biotechnology High School, Freehold
  6. Dr. Ronald E McNair High School, Jersey City
  7. Bergen County Academies, Hackensack
  8. Bergen County Technical High School, Teterboro
  9. Academy for Information Technology, Scotch Plains
  10. Academy for Allied Health Sciences, Scotch Plains
  11. Monmouth County Academy of Allied Health and Science, Neptune
  12. Elizabeth High School, Elizabeth
  13. Glen Ridge High School, Glen Ridge
  14. Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Highlands
  15. Infinity Institute, Jersey City
  16. Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest, Demarest
  17. West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North, Plainsboro
  18. Livingston High School, Livingston
  19. Millburn High School, Millburn

  22. Union County Tech, Scotch Plains
  23. Summit Senior High School, Summit

  25. Ridge High School, Basking Ridge

State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent. Massachusetts once again leads in the ranking, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, respectively.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.

U.S. News also ranked magnet, charter and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) schools. Among standout schools in New Jersey are:
