3 MI High Schools Make U.S. News 2024 ‘Best’ Ranking

MICHIGAN — Three public high schools in Michigan are among the best in the country, according to a new ranking Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report.

In the list, Michigan ranks 31st among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Among the 673 of ranked schools, one made the top ten, one ranked in the top 10 national overall ranking and two others ranked in the top 50.

The top 25 public high schools in Michigan are:

  1. International Academy, Bloomfield Hills (Oakland Schools), Ranked 8 nationally
  2. International Academy of Macomb, Clinton Township (Huron Valley Schools), Ranked 13 nationally.
  3. City High School, Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Public Schools), Ranked 44 nationally.
  4. Washtenaw International High School, Ypsilanti (Washtenaw Independent School District) Ranked 112 nationally.
  5. Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy, Saginaw (Saginaw School District), Ranked 275 nationally.
  6. Troy High School, Troy (Troy School District), Ranked 368 nationally.
  7. Northville High School, Northville (Northville Public Schools) Ranked 390 nationally.
  8. Rochester Adams High School, Rochester Hills (Rochester Community School District), Ranked 391 nationally.
  9. East Grand Rapids High School, Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids Public Schools), Ranked 410 nationally.
  10. Skyline High School, Ann Arbor (Ann Arbor Public Schools) Ranked 452 nationally.
  11. Stoney Creek High School, Rochester Hills (Rochester Community School District), Ranked 578 nationally.

State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent. Massachusetts once again leads in the ranking, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, respectively.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.

U.S. News also ranked magnet, charter and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) schools. Among standout schools in Michigan are:
