is a Grade 11⁄12 university preparation program recognized in more than 140 countries, including universities in Ontario and Canada.
In this program, students engage in the study of up to six challenging subjects simultaneously, fostering a global perspective and cross-cultural understanding. Through inquiry-based learning, IB students develop essential skills such as social responsibility, independence, and critical thinking, which are paramount for success in university education.
Upon completion of the IB examinations, students have the opportunity to seek university credit based on their performance. Graduates of the program receive both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and an IB Diploma.

2024-25 IB Application Process
The International Baccalaureate program welcomes all incoming HWDSB Grade 11 students within the designated catchment boundaries. Students are required to apply to the IB school based on their respective catchment areas.
By January 12, 2024, IB Applications must be submitted to either Ancaster or Westdale, depending on the IB Boundaries. It is essential for students to work closely with their guidance counsellor to ensure all prerequisites are fulfilled before September 2024.By February 2, 2024, successful candidates (who are not current students of Westdale or Ancaster) will receive acceptance letters, registration packages, and IB Option sheets.On February 10, 2024, families must notify Westdale or Ancaster of their acceptance via email. The IB school will then communicate further details to the student’s home or elementary school.
